Job Duties: This position
is a combination of the Literacy Tutor, the Math Tutor and the Academic
Tutor Volunteer.
-
Provide reading and math literacy
training to the boys in order to improve their reading, writing and
comprehension skills. Tutoring may be provided for 1 to 4 boys per
semester.

Provide one-to-one tutoring in reading,
writing and comprehension

Assess reading levels on a periodic
basis

Issue a monthly progress report to the
Education Director
-
Coordinate a special activity
celebrating reading level jumps
-
Provide one-to-one tutoring in basic
mathematics and math comprehension.

Assess mathematical skill levels on a
periodic basis.

Issue a monthly progress report to the
Education Director.

Coordinate a special activity
celebrating progress in math advancement levels.

Provide mathematics training to the
boys in order to improve their academic skills to successfully complete
testing requirements for GED.

Agency Goal:
To increase
the literacy rate among the boys at St. Peter’s Home for Boys
Agency Training:
Required
attendance at the Volunteer Orientation Meeting.
Agency Support: Provide
instructional materials, supplies and any required equipment.
Agency Requirements: All
staff & volunteers are required to have negative TB test results, criminal
background check and clearance from the DHS (Department of Human Services)
Abuse and Neglect Registry.
Qualifications: Ability
to teach others how to read and write. Reading level of 12th
grade.
