| St. Peter's Home for Boys is an open residential setting. An open
residential setting means that the agency allows residents access to the
community in the same manner as a normal family home. In making decisions
regarding methods of providing services the agency are made within the
framework of de-institutionalizing the agency rather than institutionalizing
the agency. We make decisions which will create a place which is
more like a home and less like an institution.
St. Peter's Home for Boys recreation program is not designed in a traditional institutional model with the purpose to keep boys busy to keep them out of trouble. In a family, recreation for adolescent is not institutionalized, but rather the children are encouraged to engage in recreation activities away from the family. St. Peter's Home for Boys support our boys in seeking recreational opportunities away from the agency, including school activities, Boy Scout Activities, Boys Club Activities. St. Peter's Home for Boys also uses community resources whenever possible for sport recreation activities in the same manner as a normal family. St. Peters Home for Boys through the use of volunteers has created the Personal Recreation Program . The volunteer Personal Coaches help boys catch up on lost childhood experiences and introduce boys to self recreational activities and hobbies for the future life. One of the demands placed on the boys is that they engage in activities with their peers in the community. The Friday-Saturday Night Date Program allows the boys to recreate within a normal adolescent framework to engage in group and individual dating activities.
